HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 66

Urging private and public assistance and cooperation in the establishment of the Thurmond-Glen Jean & Great New River Railroad to be located in Fayette County, West Virginia.

Whereas, An effort is currently underway to provide for the establishment of the Thurmond-Glen Jean & Great New River Railroad to be located in Fayette County, West Virginia
; and
Whereas,
This newly formed rail line will expand and foster the growing tourism industry in Southern West Virginia through the addition of excursion points and activities for the many tourists visiting West Virginia and the Thurmond-Glen Jean & Great New River Railroad will increase tourism, create jobs, expand education and rail safety programs and preserve our rich railroad heritage in West Virginia and will combine dependable freight service and excursion rail tours from Glen Jean to historic Thurmond; and
Whereas, It is recognized and understood that the establishment of the Thurmond-Glen Jean & Great New River Railroad is being undertaken as a privately funded project and represents an important entrepreneurial investment in the growing tourism industry located in Fayette County, West Virginia; and
Whereas, The establishment of this important economic development and tourism project can be substantially assisted through the cooperative involvement of a number of private and public entities, all of whom should be committed to fostering processes which are complimentary to the advancement of this important project; therefore, be it
Resolved by Legislature of West Virginia:
That all private and public entities are hereby encouraged to assist and cooperate with the developers of this project to help in ensuring that the Thurmond-Glen Jean & Great New River Railroad project to be located in Fayette County, West Virginia
, is advanced and to that end the Legislature urges the West Virginia Development Office, the Division of Tourism, the West Virginia Rail Authority, the Division of Culture and History, the Division of Forestry, the Office of the Governor of the State of West Virginia and any and all other public agencies and private interests to cooperate and assist in the advancement of this project; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby requested to forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor.
